What you need to know about wrinkle injections

Wrinkle injections and facial modelling with hyaluronic acid are the specialty of Dr. Stefan Horwath from OmniMed. So today we want to answer the 5 most important questions about wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid.

What is hyaluronic acid anyway?

Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide (polysaccharide) and a natural component of the human body. It is mainly found in connective tissue, in joints and also in the eye. Its main functions there are water storage and a lubricating function (in the joint fluid).

Why is hyaluronic acid injected if it occurs naturally in the body?

The hyaluronic acid content in the body decreases over the years. Age is then not only noticeable in the joints (osteoarthritis can be treated with hyaluronic acid injections, for example), but also in our connective tissue. Due to the lower hyaluronic acid content, the tissue binds less water, causing it to slacken - resulting in the formation of wrinkles.

How long does a wrinkle injection last?

How long the results of a wrinkle injection with hyaluronic acid last depends on two factors: the material used and the area of the face treated. More viscous hyaluronic acid products have a longer shelf life (18 months on average), while thinner materials last around 9 months. With liquid lifting at OmniMed, we only work with long-lasting, high-quality hyaluronic acid products.

Is a wrinkle injection painful?

If necessary, the area to be treated can be anaesthetized with an anaesthetic ointment before the wrinkle injection. This makes the injection virtually pain-free.

What does a wrinkle injection cost?

The price of a wrinkle injection depends on the quality of the hyaluronic acid product, the quantity and the care provided before and after the treatment. At the OmniMed ordinations in Eisenstadt and Klagenfurt, we only use high-quality products such as Belotero and Juvéderm. A treatment with 0.55 ml hyaluronic acid costs €280.
