Autologous blood therapy using ACS (Autologous Conditioned Serum) is specifically used to treat hair loss. In this procedure, special regenerative signaling molecules are extracted from the patient’s own blood to stimulate the hair follicles and support the scalp’s natural functions. The goal of the treatment is to boost hair follicle activity, slow hair loss, and promote natural hair growth.

Treatment procedure
Autologous blood therapy for hair loss
Preparation: Following a detailed consultation, a small amount of blood (10–12 mL) is drawn and processed in the IMPACT centrifuge. The blood sample is spun at high speed to separate its components based on their density. This process separates platelet-rich plasma from the other blood components.
The resulting autologous conditioned serum is a concentrated solution containing various anti-inflammatory proteins, including the interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra), which helps regulate the inflammatory response.
Treatment: After centrifugation, the platelet-rich plasma is injected into the scalp using very fine needles. The treatment itself takes about 20 minutes.

Hair Loss Treatment Using Autologous Blood
For autologous blood therapy, we use the IMPACT System and, depending on the indication (hair loss and alopecia areata, post-hair transplant care, hair breakage, postpartum hair loss, and hair growth stimulation), we treat patients with PRP, APC, or ACS (anti-inflammatory).

treatment method
Autologous blood therapy for hair loss
ACS (Autologous Conditioned Serum) has shown promise in promoting hair growth and treating various types of hair loss, such as androgenetic alopecia, as well as in maintenance therapy following hair transplantation.
ACS therapy promotes cell regeneration, collagen synthesis, and hair follicle renewal. After injection into the scalp, the stem cells in the hair roots are stimulated, blood flow is increased, and hair regrowth is thereby promoted.
Treatment system
The IMPACT Platform in Autologous Blood Therapy
At OmniMed, the harvested autologous blood is processed using the IMPACT platform specifically for the treatment of hair loss. This process produces, among other things, what is known as ACS (Autologous Conditioned Serum), which is rich in anti-inflammatory and growth-promoting signaling molecules. These can be targeted to support the scalp and stimulate the hair follicles.
The preparation is automated and completed quickly, allowing the treatment to begin immediately afterward.
Precise processing using modern technology
A key component of the IMPACT system is the targeted extraction of active ingredients from the blood. Using a technologically advanced process, the system isolates precisely those components that are relevant to the treatment.
The result is a highly concentrated serum that is perfectly tailored to the needs of the hair roots and contains no unwanted ingredients.
The Meaning of the "Buffy Coat"
The so-called "buffy coat" plays an important role in the processing of autologous blood. This is a layer that forms during centrifugation and contains a particularly high concentration of platelets.
These platelets are rich in growth factors, which are used in autologous blood therapy to support regenerative processes. In the context of hair loss, they can help stimulate hair follicle activity and improve the conditions for healthy hair growth.
Background knowledge
Autologous blood therapy
Autologous blood therapy is a medical procedure in which a patient’s own blood is specifically used for therapeutic purposes. In this process, the blood is drawn, processed, and re-administered in a concentrated form. The goal is to support the body’s natural regenerative processes. Depending on the procedure, different forms of autologous blood therapy are used.
In modern medicine, this method is used in various specialties, including orthopedics, sports medicine, dermatology, and aesthetic treatments.
Applications of autologous blood therapy
In dermatology and aesthetic medicine, autologous blood therapy is used, among other things, in PRP skin treatments to improve skin quality, to help treat hair loss, and to address various skin conditions. The growth factors contained in the blood can promote blood circulation and stimulate regenerative processes, which can have a positive effect on the appearance of the skin.
Autologous blood therapy is also used in orthopedics and sports medicine —for example, to promote healing in cases of joint, tendon, ligament, or muscle injuries.
An Overview of PRP, APC, and ACS
Autologous blood therapy involves various procedures, such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma), APC (autologous platelet concentrate), and ACS (autologous conditioned serum). These differ primarily in their composition and areas of application.
PRP and APC are primarily used to improve skin texture and support regenerative processes, for example as part of the so-called “vampire facelift.” ACS, on the other hand, is specifically used to treat hair loss; thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it can soothe the scalp and improve conditions for hair growth. In addition, ACS is also used to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea or psoriasis.
studies
Hair Loss Treatment Using Autologous Blood
Studies have shown that hair loss treatment using the patient's own blood is 80% effective. Hair growth improves by approximately 15%.
In a study published in the British Journal of Dermatology in 2013, 45 patients with alopecia areata (localized, circular hair loss) received PRP injections on only half of the affected area. The other half was treated with either a placebo or triamcinolone.
This study demonstrated the significant success of autologous blood injections.
Autologous blood therapy is considered a safe treatment option, but its effectiveness depends on personal, individual factors. The number of sessions required can also vary. In order to determine the suitability of PRP treatment and to create a personalized treatment plan, a qualified consultation with our medical team is essential.
