Microneedling with the Dermapen

Preparation: The first step is the careful cleansing and disinfection of the area to be treated. Afterwards a numbing gel is applied, which acts for 15-20 minutes.

Treatment: After removal of the anesthetizing gel and disinfection, the treatment area is treated several times with the Dermapen4 with gentle movements and without pressure to a maximum depth of 2 mm in the facial area and 3 mm on the body, with high-quality serums applied to the treatment area for optimal effect depending on the indication.

After application of the liquids or of NCTF 135HA or PRP Eigenblut there is an approximately 10-minute rest period to ensure effective infiltration of the active ingredients into the skin.

A soothing and moisturizing mask is then applied to the treated area.

Depending on the indication and degree of severity, we advise our patients individually and in line with their specific requirements and wishes. In order to improve the appearance of the skin in the long term, we recommend microneedling treatment with the Dermapen 3-6 times at monthly intervals. Long-term success is achieved when used as a cure. We recommend 1 to 2 treatments per year as a refresher.

Collagen Induction Therapy

Microneedling has entered the medical literature under the designation Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) has entered the medical literature. The mechanism of the dermaroller or dermapen is a very complex physiological process. Microneedling stimulates skin cells to reproduction and proliferation. The penetration of microneedles, no matter how thin, is registered by the roughly 200 nerve receptors/cm² of the skin as an injury or at least as an injury stimulus (injuries are defined as a separation of tissue connections, which cannot occur with microneedles). This stimulus, which can also be called an alarm signal, is transmitted electrically to the surrounding cells of the puncture channel — not far, approx. 0.5 to 1 mm.

Even though the atraumatic (non-injuring) microneedles demonstrably do not destroy tissue, the cascade of the wound healing process takes place. Skin stem cells and other undifferentiated cells are stimulated by electrical signals and electromagnetic fields to divide, and new cells, such as fibroblasts, the true architects of the skin, rush to close the wound. There, fibroblasts synthesize new collagen fibers to close the (apparent) wound.

Simply put: If fibroblasts and their collagen fibers were firefighters, they would be very surprised upon arrival at the 'apparent' site of injury: there is no wound, because the puncture channel of about 0.1 mm in diameter has long since been closed by the elasticity of the skin. Since collagen fibers cannot revert back, they have no choice but to integrate into the existing skin framework, inadvertently strengthening it. Certain growth factors ensure that this incorporation into the collagen network proceeds in an orderly manner and does not end in a scar. Incidentally, microneedling stimulates the same growth factors (TGF β3) that ensure that an embryo's injury in the womb closes without scarring.
