The skin's biggest enemy is no longer just the sun

Atmospheric skin ageing is omnipresent

Atmospheric skin ageing is a term for signs of skin ageing that are triggered by various harmful environmental influences or aggressive substances in the atmosphere. These aggressive elements include UVA/UVB rays, infrared A rays (IR-A) and ozone pollution (O3).

Ozone pollution is caused solely by ground-level ozone resulting from chemical reactions between sunlight and automobile exhaust, household chemicals and commercial cleaning products. Ozone pollution oxidizes fats, depletes the skin's natural reservoir of oxidants, activates inflammation and causes the breakdown of collagen in the skin.

What can you do against atmospheric skin ageing?

Aggressive environmental influences, light pollution and air pollution are constantly increasing. Atmospheric skin ageing is omnipresent. This is why we need to protect our skin all the more today, but also take more preventive and corrective measures.

You can start by taking simple steps: don't go out in the blazing sun during the most light-intensive hours (midday) and do a mole check regularly. The latest studies show that even the best sun protection only blocks up to 55% of UV-induced free radicals. I recommend using an antioxidant product, such as C E Ferulic from SkinCeuticals, and a broad spectrum sunscreen product together. This combination provides comprehensive, clinically proven protection against UV and infrared-induced skin ageing and supports skin health.

SkinCeuticals' research proves in vivo (on living skin) that the antioxidants in C E Ferulic and Phloretin C F neutralize free radicals in the upper layer of the skin and significantly reduce signs of ozone-induced skin aging.

If you notice that there is already skin damage (e.g. lack of elasticity, dark spots, veins, wrinkles and lines), I recommend that you first undergo a basic skin analysis (e.g. in our practice). Subsequently, various steps and treatments can be used depending on your skin needs and wishes, e.g. IPL, peelings, microneedling, microdermabrasion, etc.
