Atmospheric skin ageing is omnipresent

Atmospheric skin ageing ist a term for signs of skin aging triggered by various harmful environmental influences or aggressive substances present in the atmosphere. These aggressive elements include UVA/UVB rays, infrared A rays (IR-A), and ozone pollution (O3).

Ozone pollution is caused solely by ground-level ozone resulting from chemical reactions between sunlight and automobile exhaust, household chemicals and commercial cleaning products. Ozone pollution oxidizes fats, depletes the skin's natural reservoir of oxidants, activates inflammation and causes the breakdown of collagen in the skin.

What can you do against atmospheric skin ageing?

Aggressive environmental influences, light exposure, and air pollution are steadily increasing. Atmospheric skin aging is ubiquitous. Therefore, today we must protect our skin even more, while also increasingly undertaking preventive and corrective measures.

You can start with simple steps: Avoid going into direct sunlight during the brightest hours (midday) and regularly perform a mole check. Recent studies show that even the best photoprotection blocks only up to 55% of UV-induced free radicals. I recommend the combined use of an antioxidant product, e.g. C E Ferulic from SkinCeuticals and a broad-spectrum sunscreen product.
