Cryolipolysis for effective fat reduction

Cryolipolysis is a fat reduction procedure that works with cold. The word comes from the Greek (kryos = cold; lysis = dissolution). Since the discovery that cold melts fat deposits, many different applications have appeared on the beauty market. At OmniMed we work with CoolSculpting®the original cold treatment from ZELTIQ. This technology was developed at Harvard Medical School and can only be used by doctors. It is also the only cryolipolysis procedure approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

CoolSculpting®: The mode of action

But how does CoolSculpting® help to reduce fatty tissue? It makes use of the fat-reducing properties of cold, which scientists discovered more than ten years ago. A special applicator is placed on the treatment area, where it creates a vacuum. By suctioning the area, the fat cells in this area are specifically cooled, while the surrounding skin and tissue are protected.

The intensive cooling causes the fat cells to undergo apoptosis after the treatment. This means that they die through controlled cell death. They are then removed. This causes the fatty tissue to shrink permanently. Depending on the area, the treatment takes between 35 and 75 minutes and is virtually painless. Only at the beginning of the session do some patients feel a slight pulling or slight stinging sensation.

Areas of application for CoolSculpting®

CoolSculpting® applicators are available in different sizes and shapes so that the technique of fat reduction through cold can be used for many different problems. This form of cryolipolysis can be used to permanently reduce fat deposits on the hips, stomach, thighs, saddlebags, upper arms and chin.
