Cryolipolysis for effective fat reduction

Cryolipolysis is a procedure for fat reduction, which uses cold. The word comes from the Greek (kryos = cold; lysis = dissolution). Since the discovery that cold causes fat deposits to melt, many different applications have come onto the beauty market. At OmniMed we work with CoolSculpting®, the original cold treatment from the company ZELTIQ. This technology was developed at Harvard Medical School and may only be used by physicians. In addition, it is the only cryolipolysis method approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

CoolSculpting®: The mode of action

But how does CoolSculpting® help reduce fat tissue? It takes advantage of the fat-reducing property of cold that scientists discovered more than ten years ago. For this, a special applicator is placed on the treatment area, where it creates a vacuum is generated. By suctioning the area, the fat cells in that region are selectively cooled, while the surrounding skin and adjacent tissue are protected.

Through intense cooling, after treatment the fat cells enter the apoptosis. That means they die through controlled cell death off. Afterwards they are removed. As a result, the fat tissue shrinks permanently. The treatment takes between 35 and 75 minutes depending on the area and is almost painless. Only at the beginning of the session do some patients feel a slight pulling or slight stinging.

To apply the technique of fat reduction through cold to many different problems, CoolSculpting® offers applicators in various sizes and shapes. This form of cryolipolysis can therefore permanently reduce fat deposits on hips, abdomen, thighs, saddlebags, upper arms as well as on Chin permanently reduce.
