Spider vein removal with laser at OmniMed
Vascular lesions - spider veins & co. - Vascular treatment with the Nd:YAG laser
We use the Harmony XL Pro laser system in our practice. Thanks to the cooled, long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser of this system, highly effective treatment of unwanted bluish vascular changes such as spider veins is possible.
Spider veins, which shimmer bluish on the surface, usually belong to the deeper vessels and require a specific wavelength of the YAG laser for successful treatment. Depending on whether the vessel is superficial or deep and depending on the location of the lesion, a decision is made on the application of the respective laser system.
Very thin, reddish spider veins, spider naevi, angiomas or fine veins on the face are also treated with the green light KTP laser. A combination of both lasers in one session is quite common and often necessary.
How does the cooled LP (Nd:YAG laser) work?
As a highly efficient Nd:YAG laser, the cooled and long-pulsed LP laser of the Harmony XL Pro platform offers powerful yet gentle treatment of vascular changes. This laser works with a wavelength of 1,064 nm, which enables a particularly high penetration depth and can therefore even treat deeper vessels achieved.
With the long-pulsed wavelength of 1,064 nm, even deeper lesions such as bluish spider veins are removed in a non-invasive but powerful way. The long pulse duration generates the desired heating. This is because the energy is absorbed by the water and haemoglobin in the red blood cells and converted into heat (photothermolysis). The heat generated inside the vessel closes it and is then removed by the body. Only a small proportion is absorbed by the melanin in the skin. This enables targeted treatment of the vessel.
Treatment with the cooled LP is even more precise thanks to the visible target beam, which ensures significantly improved visibility of the blood vessels and skin. Patient comfort is also increased with this technologically advanced laser system. This is because contact cooling is integrated into the applicator, which makes the treatment gentler and more pleasant and minimizes the risk of side effects.
In our practice, depending on the indication, the KTP laser IDAS is also combined for all-encompassing treatment. Please note: varicose veins cannot be treated with this method.

How does the spider vein treatment work?
In a consultation, the desired treatment area is defined and you are informed about the feasibility of the desired result and treatment sequences as well as treatment costs. If you wish, the treatment can take place after the consultation.
Depending on the size of the area and the indication, the session lasts between 10 and 45 minutes. During the treatment, the area is cooled with an integrated cooling system to reduce the heat on the surface of the skin and make the treatment as comfortable as possible for the patient.
How often do I have to undergo spider vein laser treatment?
The number of sessions depends on the indication area and, of course, the initial condition and extent of the veins or spider veins. While spider veins and delicate reddish vessels on the cheeks can usually be successfully treated in one session, several sessions are necessary for pronounced spider veins. We will provide you with detailed information during your consultation.
How long is the interval between vascular treatments?
There should be a period of approx. 4-6 weeks between the individual treatments. In the time after the treatment, the body takes over the "removal" of the treated vessels. The result is assessed after this time and decides on subsequent sessions.
What do I need to consider before and after spider vein treatment?
Vascular laser treatment should be carried out on skin that is not heavily tanned, so treatment in the summer months must be decided on an individual basis. The area is reddened for several days after the treatment. Slight swelling may occur for a few days.
In the case of facial treatments, this possible swelling and redness should be taken into account when planning the treatment. If larger hemangiomas are treated, a crust may form. This is harmless and falls off after about 1-2 weeks.
As the treatment area is more sensitive to light after laser therapy, intensive sun exposure should be avoided for 3-4 weeks and sun protection 50+ should be applied. Visits to the sauna or solarium should also be avoided during the treatment period.
Practicing various sports is not a problem. Spider vein therapy does not require the wearing of support or compression stockings, but can be combined with them if desired.
