Consultation: During a detailed consultation, we will provide information about the treatment, answer any questions you may have, and discuss the exact cost of tattoo removal. Following the consultation, treatment can begin immediately if desired. We also provide comprehensive photographic documentation.
Preparation: For the treatment, the skin must be intact, meaning it should be free of irritation. The degree of tanning is always a factor in tattoo removal. Dark tattoo colors such as black or blue are less sensitive, even when removed from tanned skin. With lighter tattoo colors on tanned skin, it is better to wait until the skin color lightens again. Sunbathing and tanning beds should therefore be avoided before tattoo removal. This should be discussed individually during a consultation.
Treatment: The first step in the treatment is fractional pre-treatment of the skin using the Pixel handpiece, which makes tattoo removal both gentler and more effective. This is followed by the actual laser removal, during which targeted laser pulses are delivered to the skin. These penetrate the tattoo’s pigment particles and break them down into tiny particles. The surrounding tissue remains largely unaffected. The treatment is precise and is individually tailored to the specific tattoo.
Aftercare: After the treatment, apply a healing ointment and cover the area with a loose bandage, which can be left in place for 1–3 days, provided it does not get wet. After a few days, a scab will form as pigment particles are shed in the form of a scab. Once the scab has fallen off, the bandage or adhesive bandage can be removed and a healing ointment applied. This supports and accelerates the healing process and is available at our office.
Follow-up treatments: A follow-up treatment can be performed once the treated area has fully healed.
The number of treatments depends on many factors. If the tattoo was done recently and still contains a lot of ink, you should definitely expect to need more treatments than with older, slightly faded tattoos, which may be removed after just 3 sessions. DIY tattoos are generally removed more quickly than those done by a professional. It therefore depends on the age of the tattoo in question as well as the ink color used.
Fractional pre-treatment of the tattoo reduces the number of sessions required in every case, as a greater amount of ink can be removed during each session and the laser can be used at a higher energy level.
Care Instructions: Duringthe tattoo removal process, which typically involves several sessions, the treated area should be protected from intense sunlight. If removal is urgent and the procedure is to take place during the summer months, regular use of bandages is recommended.

Tattoo removal with laser
A tattoo removal treatment that magically makes an unwanted tattoo disappear—and does so in the blink of an eye without leaving any visible traces? How realistic is that? And can all tattoo removal lasers meet these standards? The fact is: There are many different devices on the market, and consumers can quickly feel overwhelmed when trying to choose the right one. Since early 2022, we have been offering tattoo removal using the Harmony XL PRO from Alma. This powerful multi-technology platform impresses with a wide selection of handpieces for a variety of treatments. For tattoo removal, we use the ClearLift applicator, harnessing the power of the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser for a gentle, safe, and effective treatment. Even multicolored tattoos can be removed with this method.
Harmony XL Pro with ClearLift applicator
With the new Harmony XL Pro system, Alma has launched a special edition laser platform that offers a wide range of treatment options. At OmniMed, we opted for the system with the ClearLift applicator, as this award-winning applicator is a particularly versatile Q-switched Nd:YAG treatment solution. It combines two wavelengths in a single laser module, making it ideal for the successful removal of multicolored tattoos. This requires a high-powered laser capable of delivering sufficient energy within the absorption spectrum of a wide range of colors. The 1,064 nm wavelength of the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is ideal for treating darker colors, while the 532 nm wavelength is best suited for lighter ink colors.
Effective yet gentle
These colorful tattoos can be successfully treated using different wavelengths. The powerful Q-Switched laser system works in the target tissue with particularly short pulses of high peak power, so-called nanosecond pulses, without putting excessive strain on the surrounding tissue. Color particles in the tattoo are broken up using mechanically released energy. The treatment is carried out without thermal damage to the tissue and therefore with minimal risk of scarring or hypopigmentation.
For tattoo removal, we use a special “Homogenius handpiece,” which, as the name suggests, ensures uniform energy absorption in the tissue. This prevents “hot spots” and allows for ideal coverage of the treatment area without overlap. This enables us to make the tattoo removal process as painless as possible. We also have a separate cooling system for very sensitive areas.

Advantages
Why use Harmony XL for tattoo removal?
In addition to the fact that multi-colored tattoos can also be removed with this laser, another strength of the system lies in the possibility of pretreating the tattoo with a special fractionated handpiece. This makes tattoo removal more effective and, above all, gentler for the patient.
Fractional pre-treatment with the Pixel handpiece creates tiny holes in the epidermis (top layer of skin). This pre-treatment relieves pressure after tattoo removal. Due to the tiny openings in the uppermost layer of skin, there is a significant reduction in tissue pressure and blister formation is avoided. As a result, the tattoo ink comes out more easily and the treatment area heals more quickly.
In addition to the significant increase in patient comfort, the treatment is more efficient as more tattoo ink is released per session and more energy can be used at the same time. Another advantage of fractional pre-treatment is the fact that this type of fractional treatment is actually used to treat scar tissue, thus counteracting existing scar tissue.

Risks
Tattoo removal with laser
Thanks to the fractional mode we use, the formation of blisters—which is often a cause for concern—is prevented, thereby reducing the likelihood of scarring. However, subsequent scarring cannot be completely ruled out, as everyone reacts differently; nevertheless, we work to minimize this risk through fractional treatment.
To prevent changes in skin pigmentation, we recommend protecting your skin from intense sunlight—we will provide you with detailed information on this during your first appointment.
All in all, tattoo removal is a delicate subject and side effects are always possible due to the diversity of tattoos. Unfortunately, it is not possible to rule them out completely.
